North Coast Boardriders are committed to youth development. We are always looking for ways to support youth from the North Coast who want to make surfing their sport. It is also important to us as a club that we focus on teaching our tamariki water safety, etiquette and respect for the ocean along with everything in it.
North Coast Boardriders run two grommet training sessions every second Friday throughout the year. From 3.30 till 4.30 we run The Little Rippers program for primary aged children, aimed at learning to surf, beach awareness and safety as well as kaitiakitanga and sustainability.
From 4.30 till 5.30 the North Coast Grom Squad train to hone their surfing skills and fitness. We work on competition experience, judging courses and try out different ways to make training fun and applicable to our every day lives. This squad is aimed mostly at high school aged kids and kids who are already competent surfers but are wanting to take their surfing to the next level.
These programs are free for all club members.
The Little Rippers program is currently full however the NCGS is able to take 2-3 more kids at this stage.
If you are interested in signing up/helping out or have any great skills or ideas to lend us we would be happy to hear from you!
